Interested in cognitive and emotional aspects of design of simulations and games for science education, second language acquisition, and cognitive skills development. Interests also include the design and development of educational multimedia and web applications, and particularly issues of information architecture, interaction design, and information design. In addition to directing a Ph.D. program in which he has been mentoring close to two-dozen doctoral students, as well as four post doctoral scholars, he teaches courses at the masters and doctoral level that address these topics.
Dr. Plass serves on the editorial review boards of some of the most highly ranked journals in his field, including the Journal of Educational Psychology, Educational Psychology Review, Educational Technology Research and Development, Computers in Human Behavior, Journal of Computing in Higher Education, and the Journal of Research on Technology in Education.
Research is funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences, the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and Google Research, Microsoft Research, and the Motorola Foundation.
Dr. Plass received his MA in Mathematics and Physics Education and his Ph.D. in Educational Technologies from Erfurt University (PH Erfurt, Germany).
