Mark B. Spitzer has been developing displays, optics and AR systems for 28 years. He was Principal Scientist at Kopin Corporation in the early 1990’s where he led DARPA-funded development of military head-mounted AR displays.
In 1996 Spitzer founded the MicroOptical Corporation to development AR-based eyewear (MicroOptical eventually changed its name to Myvu Corporation). As CEO MicroOptical, he launched several industrial AR products and two consumer products. When Google Glass was in the concept stage, he joined as a consultant on both technical and business issues, and then in 2012 Spitzer joined Google X as Director of Operations for Glass.
In 2014, Spitzer transferred to Google’s VR group, at the time called Cardboard, where he organized and led a team building advanced VR headsets. Spitzer has been involved in AR and VR start-up activities his entire career at both large and small companies.
Mark has been retired since 2017. Spitzer earned his B.A. with distinction in physics at Boston University in 1975 and the Ph.D. in physics at Brown University in 1981.
